Old Delhi
Red Fort: This is a magnificent fort with beautiful artwork of red sandstone on the banks of river Yamuna. It is a huge complex of gardens and pavilions and marble palaces. This fort was built in 1639, when Shahjahan decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Within eight years, Shahjahan was completed with the Red Fort-Qila-i-Mubarak (fortunate citadel)-New Delhi`s seventh fort, ready in all its magnificence to receive the Emperor. The Red Fort still retains some of its lost glory. The Red Fort was the last fort built in New Delhi and it witnessed the vicissitudes of fortune, the splendor and the fall of the Mughals, British rule, and finally the dawn of Indian Independence.
Jama Masjid: This is the largest mosque in India, and has the capacity to accommodate 25000 devotees. Located opposite to the Red Fort, Jama Masjid was completed in 1656 AD and it was again the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan behind this architectural masterpiece. Close to some 5000 craftsmen were involved in the construction of the mosque. Jama Masjid has three gates, two minarets - 40 meters in height and four towers. The minarets are made up of red sand stone and white marbles bearing stripes of black color. Jama Masjid used to be the main mosque of Shah Jahan.
Raj Ghat: Built on the banks of the legendary Yamuna, which flows past New Delhi, there is Raj Ghat-the last resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. A simple open platform inscribed with the Mahatma`s last words, `Hey Ram` (Oh God) is set in a garden with fountains and a variety of exotic trees.

India Gate: Built as a memorial to commemorate the 70,000 India soldiers killed in World War I, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931. The green, velvety lawns at India Gate, particularly, are a popular evening and holiday rendezvous for young and old alike.
President`s House: New Delhi, centers around the Rashtrapati Bhawan. It is architecturally a very impressive building standing at a height, flowing down as it were to India Gate. This stretch called the Rajpath is where the Republic Day parade is held. The imposing plan of this area conceived by Lutyens does not fade in its charm with the numerous summers or winters that go past.
Parliament House: Parliament House accommodates the two Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha (House of the People) and Rajya Sabha (Council of States). Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker, the architects of New Delhi, designed this building. His Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught, laid the foundation stone of Parliament House in the year 1921.
Humayun`s Tomb: The Mughal brought with them a love for gardens, fountains and water. The emperor’s grieving widow, Haji Begum, built Humayun’s Tomb the first mature example of Mughal architecture in India, in 1565 AD.
Lakshmi Narayan Temple: Also called the Birla Mandir it was built in 1938; the temple is an ideal introduction to some of the gods of the India pantheon. The temple contains a large number of idols and visitors can watch priests performing ritualistic prayers.
Lotus Temple: The Bahai’s Temple, is shaped like a lotus. It is an eye-catching edifice worth exploring. Built by the Bahai’s community, it offers the visitor a serenity that pervades the temple and its artistic design. Created for the followers of Bahai faith people visit it from all religions, all cultures and every country.
Qutub Minar: It is among the tallest and famous towers in the world. Qutab Minar is famed as the highest brick minaret of the world, located amidst the lush greens of South Delhi. A great masterpiece of Mughal architecture, soaring tower of victory built after the defeat of the last Hindu kingdom in Delhi.
Akshardham Temple: This temple is one of the most recently built temples in Delhi. The main shrine of the New Delhi Akshardham temple houses the statue of Lord Swaminarayan. Constructed by the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), it is situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. It is built in an architectural style similar to that of the Akshardham temple of Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India. Its construction is based on the ancient Sthaapatya shastras of India and it is built without steel, entirely out of sandstone and marble.
